SUMMER CIRCLE 2016 | Experience the Magic of Theatre

Experience the transformative power of theatre in our magical collection of shows for the 56th season.  From its traditional roots to today’s most original works, Summer Circle’s magical line-up has something for everyone!
Experience a Rodgers and Hammerstein musical revue, a comedic Shakespeare troupe, a fizzy Noel Coward comedy, a hilariously dark late night comedy, and a world premiere musical for young audiences as part of FREE theatre in our accessible courtyard. This summer also includes our expanded programming before all shows and the free Summer Circle Theatre kids camp! Invite your friends and family to experience the magic of Summer Circle Theatre.

For over fifty years the MSU Department of Theatre has been producing free performances of a wide variety of shows outdoors on the banks of the beautiful Red Cedar River on the MSU campus. Presenting a blend of old favorites, musicals, and provocative new plays, Summer Circle Theatre offers the community a unique opportunity to enjoy quality theatre produced by faculty and students of the Department of Theatre in a relaxed, informal setting, rain or shine.

Bring your picnic and enjoy our “Great Storytelling” near the Banks of the Red Cedar River. Come early for the best seating. Be the first person to arrive on any show date and receive a free season pass to the 2015-2016 Department of Theatre’s productions!

Summer Circle is easily reached via either the Collingwood entrance to MSU off Grand River or Auditorium Rd. off Bogue Street. Free parking is available in the lot across from the Auditorium Building. Performances in the Summer Circle Courtyard are located on Auditorium Road between the Auditorium Building and the Kresge Art Center.

FREE Summer Circle Theatre remains dependent on donations from loyal patrons to maintain the quantity and quality of its town and gown productions.

Shakespeare had his “wooden O,” the Globe. MSU’s Summer Circle Theatre will clamber out of the Red Cedar floodplain to a spiffy new outdoor venue that will be — cue Sir Anthony Hopkins — “wired for sound and ringed with seats of porous rubber.”
